  • 0.5 oz Saaz Hops (flavor)
  • 1 oz Kveik Yeast
  • Water (for mash and sparge)
  • Priming sugar (for bottling)

With our ingredients lined up, let’s get brewing! Follow these straightforward steps to whip up a Kveik Lager that will have your taste buds dancing:

Instructions

  1. Start by heating your water to around 162°F (72°C) for mashing.
  2. Once the water is ready, add your crushed Pilsner malt, Munich malt, and flaked corn to the mash tun, stirring well to avoid clumps.
  3. Maintain the mash temperature around 152°F (67°C) for about 60 minutes, allowing those enzymes to work their magic.
  4. After 60 minutes, raise the temperature to 170°F (77°C) for mash-out.
  5. Now, sparge with about 170°F (77°C) water until you have gathered around 6 gallons of wort.
  6. Bring the wort to a boil, adding the Hallertau hops at the beginning for bitterness.
  7. After 45 minutes, throw in the Saaz hops for flavor and aroma, boiling for an additional 15 minutes.
  8. Once the boil is complete, cool the wort down quickly using a wort chiller or an ice bath.
  9. Transfer the cooled wort to your fermenter, pitch the Kveik yeast, and seal it up with an airlock.
  10. Ferment at a warm temperature (around 80-90°F or 27-32°C) for about a week.
  11. Once fermentation is complete, bottle with priming sugar and let it carbonate for another week or two.
  12. Finally, chill, pour, and enjoy your homemade Kveik Lager!
