Lutra™ Kveik Helles Pseudo-Lager Recipe
This recipe features the unique Lutra™ Kveik yeast, which is known for its ability to ferment at warmer temperatures while imparting a clean and crisp flavor. This beer is perfect for those who appreciate a refreshing lager with a twist!
### Ingredients:
- 8 lbs Pale Malt (2-row)
- 1 lb Munich Malt
- 0.5 lb Carapils/Dextrine Malt
- 1 oz Hallertau hops (bittering)
- 1 oz Saaz hops (flavor)
- 1 oz Saaz hops (aroma)
- 1 pack Lutra™ Kveik yeast
- 5 oz corn sugar (for priming)
- Water (to achieve desired volume)
Instructions:
- Preparation: Start by sanitizing all your equipment to ensure a clean brewing process. This step is crucial for a successful batch!
- Mash: In a large pot, heat 3 gallons of water to around 160°F (71°C). Once the water reaches the correct temperature, add your crushed grains and maintain a mash temperature of 152°F (67°C) for 60 minutes.
- Boil: After the mash, sparge with enough water to collect about 6 gallons of wort in the kettle. Bring the wort to a boil and add the Hallertau hops at the beginning of the boil for bitterness.
- Flavoring: After 45 minutes of boiling, add the Saaz hops for flavor. Let the mixture boil for another 15 minutes, then remove from heat.
- Cooling: Cool the wort quickly using a wort chiller or an ice bath until it reaches around 80°F (27°C).
- Fermentation: Transfer the cooled wort to a sanitized fermenter and pitch your Lutra™ Kveik yeast. Seal the fermenter and allow it to ferment for about 1 week at room temperature.
- Bottling: After fermentation is complete, dissolve 5 oz of corn sugar in about 2 cups of water and add this to your bottling bucket. Then, siphon the beer into the bottling bucket, mixing gently to avoid oxidation.
- Bottle: Fill your sanitized bottles, cap them, and let them carbonate at room temperature for about 1-2 weeks.
- Enjoy: Chill, pour, and savor your homemade Lutra™ Kveik Helles Pseudo-Lager. Cheers!
Now you have everything you need to brew your very own delicious lager. Invite some friends over and enjoy the fruits of your labor. Happy brewing!
